CycleWest Ireland is an Irish Adventure Travel Company with International experience. Established in 1997 in Atlanta, Georgia, CycleWest Ireland is a specialist Bike Tour Company that offers guided, independent, family and custom group tours in the West of Ireland, France and in Italy. The company was registered in Ireland in September 2000, and has been in operation in Ireland since then.

Background
Founder and Managing Director, Fidelma Ray, had worked in the financial industry in Atlanta, Georgia. A cycling enthusiast, Fidelma saw an opportunity biking tours of the West Coast of Ireland that would include the unique scenery, history and culture of the Burren and Connemara regions with which she was so familiar. Her father, Dave Ray, designed and created routes for International Car Rallies in Ireland throughout the 1960’s and 70’s. A competitive driver and navigator, he has a wealth of knowledge about the backroads in the West of Ireland. Together they use their local expertise and first hand knowledge of Ireland to combine the best of routes and local accommodations as part of their product offering.

Translating the ‘Tulip System’ a car rally navigation system into route directions, CycleWest Ireland. This unique Route Directional System, developed by CycleWest Ireland in 1998 and successfully tried and tested, now enables them to penetrate into those remote regions, where motor traffic density is low and view Ireland at its unspoiled best.  

Fidelma was nominated runner up Business Woman of the Year in 2001, by the Business and Professional Woman's Network (Western Region). IN 2004 she was award the 'Marketing Person of the Year Award' by the Marketing Institute, Western Region. She and her daughter, Alison, traveled to Mount Everest Base Camp (17,600 ft) in March of 2003 with the Irish Everest Expedition led by Irish adventurer Pat Falvey.   She has completed her MBA at the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Product Marketing
Fidelma has been the Secretary of Walking Cycling Ireland for several years - a product marketing group that liase closely with Failte Ireland's product marketing department. She has also led several trips throughout the West of Ireland for Journalists and photographers from publications around the world.

CycleWest Ireland, use their local expertise and first hand knowledge of Ireland to combine the best of routes, itineraries and accommodations as part of their product offering.  Since 2005, they have worked with and offer logistical support to overseas tour operators who wish to establish a touring presence here in Ireland.
