The Loire Valley >

Famous for the regal majesty of the châteaux of the Kings and the serene beauty of France’s great river, the Loire Valley is home to the finest examples of the castle builder's art; from the medieval fortresses of Amboise and Angers, through the renaissance masterpieces of Chenonceaux and Chambord to the directoire folly of Ussé and the fabulous gardens of Villandry.

Bordeaux Vineyards >

Gentle cycling through some of France's best loved wine producing areas. This treasure chest of viticulture contains some of the most glittering stars of the wine-lover’s firmament: St-Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac in the Libournais to the east, Graves and Sauternes in the Entre-Deux-Mers region to the south-east, and Pauillac, St-Julien and Margaux in the Medoc peninsular to the north-west.

Burgundy

Famous wines, medieval architecture, the wild Morvan plateau, rivers. The mention of the word ‘Burgundy’, Bourgogne to the French, conjures up many images. To some, the first thing that springs to mind is wine, from the crisp whites of Chablis to the prestigious reds of the Côte D’Or, Nuits-St-George, Pommard, Aloxe-Corton and Puligny-Montrachet being but a few.

Languedoc and the Midi >

Romantic ruined castles, vineyards and mountains, the Canal du Midi. The Languedoc is a land of startling contrasts. From its flat coastal plain which is the largest wine producing area of France, the region stretches inland to the Black Mountains (Montagne Noire), and to the west until it meets the Pyrénées.

Dordogne >

Medieval towns and prehistoric sites, rivers, cliffs and haut cuisine. In addition to this wealth of history the area is blessed by its stunning landscapes of rivers and cliffs, hills and fields of sunflowers and tobacco. The rich countryside is reflected in the cuisine of the region, famous for its duck and goose dishes, including the celebrated fois gras, its truffles and its cheeses. The area also has its own wine appellations, from the light and fruity Bergerac and Pecharmont in the north to the dark and powerful Cahors in the south.

Provence

Roman history, fields of lavender and sunflowers, the flavours of the south. It has been said that Provence is more a state of mind than a distinct geographical area — the olive trees, fields of lavender and sunflowers, and the sunshine give a mediterranean feeling. The landscape is wonderfully varied, from the rugged hinterland with terraced vineyards, to the mini-mountain range of the Alpilles near Arles, to the flat marshes of the Camargue where the Rhone flows to the sea.
