7 day / 6 Night Guided Bike Tour
Join us on this total immersion into Tuscany: back roads head into rolling hills and through the fortified medieval villages of an untouched Toscana. The goal of this bike trip is to introduce you to Tuscany and genuine Tuscan cucina: fruity olive oil, pecorino sheep-milk cheese and classic best Tuscany wine: Brunello, that has made Tuscany so famous, Chianti Classico and Nobile. You will taste a selection of our favorite producers during our special events.
Day 1: Pienza “the perfect town”
Arrive at Chiusi train station and transfer to your hotel in Pienza. During a bike-fitting session, get to know the rest of the group. First short ride to San Quirico: there are barely more than a dozen streets in this tiny town, but they are all actually paved with real terra cotta, and there’s also a magical baptistery. Distance 20km/ 12,5 miles
Day 2: Montepulciano & Orcia Valley
Bike ride downhill, gentle rolling hills and climb to reach Radicofani. Follow a bike route that winds through a scenic landscape checkered with vineyards, cypresses, and medieval villages… is the Val d’ Orcia, UNESCO world heritage site for “an exceptional reflection of the way the landscape was re-written in Renaissance times”. Distance 66km/41 miles.
Day 3: Montalcino brunello town
Bikeride today includes a long descent into Val d’ Orcia and hearty uphill to Bagno Vignoni a thermal spa town that dates back to Roman times right before reaching on your bike the beautiful Castiglione d’Orcia, with the imposing Rocca. Explore Sant’Antimo Abbey. The highlight of the day is Brunello wine tasting at winery Le Ragnaie. Distance 46km / 28,5 miles
Day 4: Siena & “le crete”
Start today’s bike trip with 10 km long downhill! Following a picturesque crest road, you’ll ride by Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey, a Benedictine abbey built in the 13th century and famous for its frescoed cloister and stunning setting. Traverse the famous Crete region: Tuscany’s answer to the Badlands. In Siena lovely garden hotel. Distance 55 km/ 34,5 miles
Day 5: Chianti Wine Tasting
The previous days of biking have prepped your legs for the famed hills of Chianti! Today you bike an almost impossibly scenic group of hills blanketed with vineyards and thick forests. It is breathtaking, and so is the ride! Rest your legs at Castello di Brolio. Arrive at Castellina on the best route for the serious wine lovers and cyclist travellers. Distance 50 km/31 miles
Day 6: San Gimignano “Citta delle torri”
Today your biking takes you to Monteriggioni ~ a town-in-a-castle Soft, colorful, rolling hills of vineyards and sunflowers provide the backdrop to pre-Roman Etruscan remnants on your route to San Gimignano’s “medieval skyscrapers”. Wander through the cobblestoned streets and enjoy the little shops.Shuttle back to Castellina in Chianti. Distance 60km/ 37,5 miles.
Day 7: Arrivederci
Enjoy the farewell breakfast and wander in Castellina, via delle volte, the best gelato, enoteche…
